Names

About five years ago, we had a pregnancy "scare."  It's kind of funny now, but at the time Troy and I were both in school, working random jobs and adding a baby was an insanely scary thought.  It did, however, prompt us to start talking about baby names.  Our tastes are extremely different.  I've always liked the name Autumn, but obviously that would just be cruel and lead to endless jokes.  And I love the name Leah, but Troy doesn't like it at all.

I won't even get started on the names that Troy liked.  He was adamant that we had to name a boy Lebron.  Good thing that was only a scare, because Troy would have disowned the poor little boy when Lebron left Cleveland.  Or at least changed our son's name.  But after lots of discussion we found several names that we both liked and agreed on.

Here we are, five years later, and we still like those same names.  We are not the best decision makers, so it's kind of interesting that we have talked excessively about different names, but always end up coming back to the same two - Keegan (boy) and Kerigan (girl).  What do you think?

I've received a variety of reactions to the names, which is fine.  As someone with a very common name, I like that the names are unique.  I always try to anticipate nicknames by shortening and twisting the names, but I haven't come up with any that are too bad.  Yet...

I feel the need to add a disclaimer: we have the right to change our minds before the baby arrives.  This blog post in no way locks us in to naming our child one of the above names.  :)

  1. I like the names! They are unique without being weird :). When we decided on Jackson, believe it or not, I knew of no other child with that name. Crazy how it has exploded. I'm a little bummed!
It took me awhile to figure out why autumn would get made fun of, but it gave me a chuckle when I did :)

  2. Love them BOTH! Esp Kerigan! Unique and adorable. However...i wish you would take the name Autumn Sommers so we don't have to ;) Andy is DEAD SET...and its not going to happen. For a while i thought he was joking but..no. He thinks its the most beautiful name ever. (sigh)

  3. I like them! I'm also a fan of unique names, and those are very cool ones. Jon always has the worst name suggestions. Ever. I'm definitely in charge of the naming department.
