I enjoyed my 24 hours at home, but it was really good to get back to Keragan. She did well while I was gone, though, and has now gone 24 hours without an episode!!! Hopefully we'll make it through the night and longer. We still have a ways to go, but the episodes are lessening and that is a good start.
While home, I actually got to look at this blog on the computer instead of just my phone, and I was blown away by the amount of views I get per day!! I initially started the blog for family who lived out of town, and now it's kind of taken on a life of its own! As I talk to people, I realize that I often leave questions unanswered, as I forget what I've written about and what I haven't. Anyway, here are a few answers to some questions I've gotten lately:
Were the court issues worked out? Yes! This was a big one that I forgot to mention in the mess last week. All parental rights of the birth family were terminated this past week, and she is all ours!
Did you find a monitor?
Um, kind of. It looks like we may be sent home with a monitor from the hospital, so I may not need to buy one. If we do not get a hospital monitor, I have my eye on the snuza monitor which clips onto the diaper and will alert you if the baby stops breathing for 15 seconds. Im watching Craigslist, but I'll likely need to buy a new one, as they are fairly new.
Does she always smile?!
No. She definitely has her funny faces and her "normal" faces, I just take a ton of pictures, and I just post the smiley ones. But she is pretty laid back and seems content.
Can we visit? Sure! We love visitors, however please keep in mind that children under 12 are not allowed, only 3 people are allowed to be with her at a time (plus me), and if you are sick please do not come. I'm almost always at the hospital, so email or call me and let me know if you want to come.
How big is she now? How old? She was born March 2, so she's a little over 7 weeks old. She was 3 lbs 2 oz at birth, 3 lbs 15 oz when we met her, and as of today she is 5 lbs 15 oz. She's wearing newborn clothes now! And I think she carries about 8 oz of her weight in her cheeks. :)
Do you need anything?
This is probably the question we get asked the most. And the only answer we really have right now is prayers and encouragement. Although, I do occasionally think of something weird that I need, so don't ask unless you really mean it. :)
Where are you in regards to the finances for the adoption?
This is another big one. We had saved/raised the money for the adoption, however we have experienced some additional expenses, such as medical bills, court fees, and travel expenses. Plus, my job does not provide paid leave, so any time that I take off will be unpaid. We still have a pending grant application, so pray that we can receive some assistance through that organization. We feel confident that God will provide what we need for Keragan to become part of our family.
If you have other questions of things that I leave unanswered, please ask!! And please continue praying for Keragan as she moves closer to coming home!
