I've been spoiled. Kera has been so easy to take care of, so laid back. Yeah, we're a little tired from getting up at night to feed her, but it's nothing compared to what I was expecting. Until today.
Troy went back to work today for a half day, and then he'll be working full time again starting tomorrow. We had been splitting the night at 3am. Anything before 3 am was mine, and after 3 am was his. So this morning when she woke up crying, I didn't have the luxury of letting Troy get her. I'm not a morning person, and so I stumbled into her room, picked her up and sat down to rock her to calm her and rock myself awake. Once I was sufficiently awake, I went to change her diaper, and she promptly peed all over me. First time she's done that since we left the hospital, and she only did it once there. She was hungry, so by the time I cleaned everything up, she was really crying. Not only were we out of clean bottles and burp rags, but while I was looking for them, I found that she had spit up all over her crib sheets.
I finally washed a bottle, found a substitute burp cloth, fed her and burped her. She looked like she was ready to go back to sleep, and I thought maybe I could put her to bed and start the day over. No, she promptly spit up at least an ounce all over herself, all over me, and all over the couch. It was like a fountain, and I felt like I was watching it in slow motion. The substitute burp cloth was not even close to sufficient to catch/clean up the mess, so I decided I better just give her a bath. She loves baths and I thought it may calm her stomach. Less than two minutes of being in the bath, she spit up again. Everywhere. So, I had to empty the bath and run a new one. While she was out, she started pooping. With no diaper.
I finally got her clean, dried off, diapered and lotioned up, just for her to spit up AGAIN. I gave up with the bath and just wiped her down. Luckily she fell asleep right away, so I had a chance to clean up the disaster in my house before the social worker came to check on Keragan.
The rest of the day has been full of more spit up, fussing and crying. Just as I was typing this, I had to take a break to get her from her crib as she spit up more everywhere. I tried the Gripe Water, but it hasn't seemed to help. I was just bragging yesterday about how she has been doing so well and hardly spits up and doesn't pee on us. I guess that's what I get for bragging. :)
Tomorrow is looking a little scary, being here all by myself all day long. Hopefully she's feeling a little better by then!
Get the soft waterproof pads. Put one in her crib and one on the changing table. That way you only have to change them when she spits up, poops or pees. Take my word for it, it made life so much easier!!! You only have to change them and not the crib sheet or changing pad cover!
