Brainstorming

I've been thinking a lot about adoption fundraisers over the past few days.  All of the grant paperwork has been filled out and will be submitted once I collect my reference letters, and all I can do is wait.  Or think about fundraisers.  :)  So I decided that I need some feedback on my thoughts so far.

Troy's contribution to the fundraising process is that he'll tattoo anything on his butt for a $1000 donation, inspired by a recent episode of the Office. He seems serious about it, but I'm not so sure.  I guess if we had someone who was willing to donate that much, we'd have to at least think about it.  But do we really want to have to explain to our child some day that daddy has some weird saying or picture on his butt so that we could adopt you?  Not really, next idea...

I've been thinking about selling Christmas cookies.  I enjoy baking and people enjoy my baked goods.  Christmas is often crazy busy, and so this could be a way to help others out by providing a service that they need, and in return help build our adoption fund.  I checked into the laws here in Ohio, and it is legal.  Cookie trays would be great for parties or gifts, but I'm not sure I have the resources or contacts to advertise/sell enough to make it worth it.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

  1. A couple of my friends have done fundraisers selling baked goods via facebook. That's an easy way to advertise although it does limit your selling potential to your geographic area unless you're willing to ship. If you got some of your friends in your area to put it on their sites too, that might be one way to get the word spread. I'd be glad to post it to my profile if you wanted.

One of the blogs I follow does an occasional fundraiser link-up. Here's the link: http://www.millionsofmiles.com/2011/10/adoption-fundraiser-linkup.html
You might find some good ideas there. I haven't looked through them all.
