I was going to wait, but I can't wait any longer!!! We got a call from the agency yesterday, and they have a little girl for us! Our social worker explained the situation, and I think we decided in about 15 minutes that this is the little girl for us!!! (Can you tell I'm excited by the excessive use of exclamation points!?)
Just a few brief details... we technically have until Friday morning that the birth mother could change her mind. Our social worker doesn't think she will, but there's always that possibility. At first I didn't want to tell anyone until we knew for sure, but within about ten minutes we had told 20 people. Plus, I think we're so emotionally invested in this little girl that it'll break our heart if we don't get her, whether we tell people or not.
A few details about her, she's already a few weeks old. She was born 9 weeks early, and has been in NICU for about three weeks. I'm so sad to have missed out on the first three weeks of her life, however I have to focus on the future and the fact that I'll have her for the rest of our lives. Other than having under developed lungs and being so tiny, she's perfect. She was 16 inches long, 3 lbs 10 oz at birth, and she's up to 4 lbs 3 oz now. She's still on oxygen and being fed by tube. But the doctors have no reason to expect any set backs, now or later.
She is at a hospital a few hours away from us, so as soon as we find out that the birth mother has terminated her legal rights (that sounds kind of horrible, but that's what it is), we'll head to the hospital for the weekend. We're hoping to spend a good part of our time at the hospital until she comes home, however long that may be.
We're waiting on the name. She was named by her birth mother, and they've been calling her by that name for three weeks now. We're going to wait until we see her to decide if we want to change her name or leave it how it is. I'll be sure to post it as soon as we decide. :)
I'll try to keep the blog updated, but in the meantime, please pray that she'll continue to develop well and that as we spend time with her, we'll be able to bond quickly with her to make up for lost time. Also pray that we're able to find good (cheap) lodging for the time we'll be away from home.
YAY!!! I can't believe the time is finally here!
Congratulations!! I'll be praying for her health and for your peace while you wait out this time.
