Answers

Well, I asked for answers, and I got answers... In the form of bad episodes, a spinal tap and the dreaded caffeine. She started out this morning having a good day, however by this afternoon she was having some issues. Finally, she had an episode that lasted 35 seconds. Generally it only takes 5-10 seconds, and anything over 10 seconds is considered serious. So 35 seconds earned a call to the doctor. She consulted with the neonatologist, who ordered a ton more tests (including a spinal tap which was horrible to see) and put her back on caffeine. A short round of caffeine will require a minimum if 3 weeks, so absolute best case scenario, we will be released from the hospital may 12. But it'll likely be mid to end of May. Even though I don't like the answers, at least it feels like we're getting somewhere.
She also was put on a round of antibiotics to make sure that she's not fighting an infection. They had to put in an IV for these meds, and to keep it in she has this arm brace. She hates it, as she hates having her arms held down. It also required a new crib/bed/table thing that is really intimidating.
Tomorrow morning they are doing a head ultrasound to double check that there is no brain damage or injury. They have already done one, but they want to be sure they are not missing anything.
Please pray for her ultrasound to be clean, and for the caffeine to help her with the episodes she keeps having. Also, please pray for Troy and I as we make plans and travel back and forth and deal with the emotional and physical exhaustion. Pray specifically against sickness, as troy has been feeling sick. Also pray for the finances, that we have the faith that God will provide what we need during this time.

  1. Aww, sad to hear about the setbacks. Still praying she gets stronger and that the episodes stop! I now keep your blog as an open tab on my computer all the time, and check back regularly to read your updates and pray. It takes so much courage to adopt in the first place, and to be willing to show unconditional love and so much patience for a child whose health is struggling so much is so inspirational. You guys are my heroes :-).

  2. This brings back so many memories of when Parker was in the hospital. He had that same crib after his surgery and yes it is rather intimidating with all the wires, moniters and buttons. So sorry to hear of all the setbacks. We're praying for you, Troy and Keragen.
