Shots

It's been a bit of a rough day. Kera had her six month doctors appointment this morning, and I was actually looking forward to it! I was excited to see how much she'd grown and see what the doctor said.
However, before we even got that far, she peed all over herself, earning herself a bath, and not allowing much time to eat. Plus, she thinks she should only eat food now, not formula, so she wasn't thrilled to get her bottle instead of cereal or peaches. But we made it just in time, and promptly spit up everywhere. Repeatedly. I had brought two spit up rags, and they were both disgustingly wet by the time we left.
The doctor was happy with her growth, so I guess I should be happy, too, but I really felt that she had grown more. She is now 24.5 inches long (went from the 11th percentile to the 8th) and weighs 14.7 lbs (went from the 11th percentile to the 16th). I really thought she had thinned out in the last few weeks, but apparently not. The good news is that her head is finally growing!!! She was in the 2nd percentile, but is now up to the 14th percentile. She didnt pee on the scale (a first for her) which was exciting, and She was showing off, too, rolling all over the place, babbling to the doctor, grabbing things, everything he was asking me about. He seemed really impressed, and continues to be completely optimistic about her not having any delays from being a preemie. Oh, and her bottom two teeth should be here any day.
So, all is great at this point, the doctor is happy, Kera is happy, I'm starting to get my stuff together, and he mentions the vaccines. Didn't we have enough of them last month?! And the month before that?! Apparently we have shots every visit. So, the screaming started. Luckily I had the pacifier ready. She only gets the pacifier in bed when it's time to sleep, so luckily she took the pacifier and fell asleep in record time.
She's been a little fussy since then, but not too bad.
I wasn't sure what to do about the flu shot. I've never had one myself, but they strongly recommend it for babies. I was going to say no, but then he started scaring me with stories of his patients having to be in the hospital with H1N1. So I did it... And now she has a fever. It's a low grade one, but it's there... Considering 1 in 6 babies show symptoms of the flu after getting the shot, I feel fairly confident that we'll be experiencing flu-like symptoms for the rest of the week.
Other than the doctor visit, things are going well! I'm getting her into more of a routine, and getting more sleep (yay!). We're getting closer to her sleeping completely through the night, and I can't wait for that day!!
She's also eating like crazy! She absolutely loves the food, and she even prefers it over the formula. The doctor said its fine, so we're going to keep feeding her solids! She also got to spend some time with her cousins this weekend, and hung out with some friends at church. She watched her first Browns game with dad, and got her first motivational speech about "next year" and how "this is the life of a Browns fan..."
Wherever we go, she's Little Miss Popular, and loves the attention... It's adorable now, but I'm already dreading her getting older and getting attention from the boys... So we're practicing the disguises. :)

  1. I'm not a football fan in any sense of the expression, but I snickered about your little story of the motivational speech about the Browns. :) Ha! And that's a darling picture of the girls! Myron & Troy will have their hands full in about 18 years, beating off the boys.
