Kera is growing up so quickly and developing quite the personality. We're just getting into the mimicking stage, so you really have to watch what you say around her. Apparently I say "oh, no!" a lot, because this week everything is "Oh NO!" And she says it so dramatically that you think something horrible happened. But no, she just stepped on a piece of paper or dropped a toy. She also has been coming up with some crazy facial expressions. I'm not sure where she gets it, but they make us laugh so much! I want to get pictures of some of them, but they always happen at the most random times when I don't have my phone near by.
Keragan's love of Dora the Explorer has turned into an obsession. Well, not Dora as much as Boots, the monkey. The first thing she says when she gets out of bed is "Boots?" She only watches Dora right before bed, so she knows that she has a whole day before she'll see Boots, but she apparently lives for that hour. At first I thought it was cute, so I found some Dora books at garage sales, but now I'm stuck reading those books ten times a day. When picking out her backpack, I held up two backpacks (both Dora the Explorer) to let her pick which one she wanted. Her eyes got so big, and she just looked back and forth and back and forth for several minutes. I was just about to pick for her when she finally chose one.
Speaking of choosing, she has started picking out her clothes. Or, maybe more appropriately, refusing to wear certain clothes. Before, I'd pick out an outfit and dress her. Now, as I'm looking through her dresser, she'll reach in and grab what she wants and hand it to me. Sometimes she'll let me put a different outfit on her, but there are some shirts she does NOT want to wear. I have no idea where the opinions come from, but it's interesting to see what she chooses and what she doesn't. Although, I must mention that she almost always chooses the Ohio State jersey that's two sizes too big. So, I guess she has pretty good taste.
Her other obsession is her blanket, or "bet" as she calls it. She doesn't use a pacifier or have a stuffed animal, so I guess it's not a big deal that she carries her blanket everywhere. Although I have stopped letting her take it in the car after an unfortunate incident a few weeks ago. She loves putting the blanket over her head. She walks around the house with it on her head, sleeps with it on her head, and puts it over her head in the car. It's knit, and has holes which allow her to see and breathe, so I don't really mind that she does this. However, as we pulled into a store parking lot, parked and I started getting my stuff together, I saw the people in the next car looking at my car in panic. I wondered what was wrong until I looked in the back and saw them pointing at Kera with a blanket over her head. They apparently thought she was dead or dying or something, and weren't too convinced when I said she was fine and always does that. So, we keep "bet" at home now, or at least not in the back seat with her unless we're traveling long distances.
We had our first Ohio State football game this past weekend, so all week I'd been trying to get her to say "OH." We didn't get there, but she finally got to wear her jersey, which she was pretty stoked about. The first touchdown, Troy and I both yelled, and scared Kera. Luckily she was quickly consoled, and quickly learned to yell "touchdown!!" and put her hands in the air. Which was fun until she did it the next day in a quiet Indian restaurant. Oh, well. She fell asleep at halftime, but enjoyed the game anyway.
