Through all the sick time, though, we've been having a pretty good time. We traveled to Maryland for Easter, even with me being sick for the first two days, for Keragan's first real Easter. Real meaning she could participate and be excited about it! Because of all the sickness, we didn't get to dye Easter eggs, but that didn't stop us from taking her to her first community Easter egg hunt! There were a ton of kids, so she only got four eggs, but she was so excited (and cute) carrying her little basket and opening her eggs!
Sunday, my family got together, and we always have an egg roll and hunt. She got quite a few more eggs this time around, but may have been more interested in the sand box. And despite missing her nap in the afternoon, she was quite enthusiastic about the egg roll! Her egg only went about a foot, but it didn't crack! Our wonderful weekend ended with a sleepless night and pink eye, but it was good memories nonetheless.
I think this is the stage where we learn more about ourselves than the children. Keragan is a little echo right now, and I often hear her say something and wonder where in the world she got that?! The other day she asked for strawberries, and as I was getting them out and washing them, she sat at the table and chanted "Strawberries! Strawberries! PATIENCE!" It caught me off guard, and I asked her what she said. She simply repeated "PATIENCE!" and I about died laughing! That one was all Troy, though.
Keragan transitioned a few weeks ago from the two day class to the four day class at school. I got to observe her one day, and during circle time, they each get to pick out their picture, say their name and put the picture on the board. Each week (month?) they have different categories, and this time it was 'Boy' and 'Girl.' I was so impressed when she said her name, picked up her picture, walked to the board, and proudly said 'BOY!' as she put it on the board. Hopefully we can get that sorted out sooner rather than later. :) While she loves being with the older kids and doing the more advanced activities, it's taken it's toll on her here at home, and we've dealt with her being more clingy to us when we're home, as well as her not always wanting me to leave school when I drop her off. It's also been a nice little break for me, as I usually am working anytime she is in school or napping. Now I have two mornings per week when I can get things done! Although in the past two weeks, half of those days were spent sick at home. :(
We're also working on potty training. She's been using the potty for the past several weeks, but we have to ask her and take her. If we don't, she'll just go in her diaper/underwear and not care at all. We've been reading all these books about big girls who wear underwear and babies who wear diapers, but she consistently tells me, "I like diapers. They're my favorite." Then again, when given the option between cleaning up her messes in underwear or using diapers, they're probably my favorite too.
It's been wonderful that spring is here, and Keragan LOVES to play outside. We have a sandbox and a water table, and it's hard to get her to come inside. The other morning at 7:00 am, the first thing she said when she woke up was "Sandbox?!" Seriously?! Even with her nose running and her eyes watery and red, she's knocking at the door asking to go out.
Hopefully with this nice weather we can get rid of all of these germs and be healthy by next week!
